Hilo and Kids

The kids survived flying solo.  United hooked them up and gave them Economy Plus row with no one sitting next to them and free food for the whole flight.  Shane played on his phone for 5 hours straight and Hailey said she slept for 1 hour, ate for one hour, stared out the window for 1 hour and who knows what for the rest.

Up at 6am, eating the warm hotel cookies, the kids know Doubletree gives free ones
The kids only had 1 full day in Hilo so we took them to all the best spots
The caves entrance

a 1/2 mile into the cave

Next stop was PeePee Falls.  We weren't sure if Hailey was going to be brave enough but we had to try.  This made her a little nervous

 Our trailblazing skills
Shane is game for anything
So proud of Hailey, she was a trooper and made it without complaining
It rained the night before which created a 4th waterfall!

Jesse and Shane

Then we headed for a little dip in the ocean

We stopped at the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Farm
We drove down to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.  There were steam vents everywhere which felt good because it was cold outside

Jesse and Shane made it down to the crater and crossed it.  It feels and looks like another planet
Hailey and I could see them from up above
hiking back to the car
Cool purple flower stem
I told the kids to put their arms around each other, this is as close as they get
another Cave entrance
This cave was kind of cheating, it was already lit up

Then off to the lookout to see lava which you can't always see, 1 hour later you couldn't see anything
Headed back to the hotel and got Hawaiian Shaved ice for dinner
